Did you buy a bike on the Bike to work scheme or are you a sportive rider? Have you started triathlons? On this course you will learn how to deal with on the road emergencies, preventative maintenance before and after racing / touring, how to set up and do basic repairs on your bicycle. Week 1- Emergency roadside repairs The names of different parts and functions of your bike, how to fix a puncture and check and keep your tyres in good condition, essential tools to take out cycling and how to correctly use them, how to make minor adjustments to your bike roadside, how to fix a buckle. Week 2- Setting up your Bike How to wash and lube your bike, how to make sure your bike is the correct fit for you, how to tighten and torque all bolts on your bike, how to take care of your chain and how to safely remove and replace it, how to check headset Week 3- Gears and Brakes! How to replace gear and brake cables inner and outer, how to index and adjust gears and properly adjust front and rear derailleurs , how your gears work and how to replace your cassette, how to re grease and maintain bottom bracket. Week 4- How to build a bike Your tutor will bring a frame with all the components and with his direction you will build a bike from scratch, it gives a great understanding of how a bike works and lets the class use the skills they've learned over the previous weeks.
